TFSA Room Estimator

How much can you still put in? We add up every year's limit since you turned 18, then subtract your contributions.

Estimate only — not your official room. Your true available room lives in CRA My Account. Over-contributions are penalized at 1% per month on the excess, with no $2,000 buffer like an RRSP. Always confirm before a large deposit.

Your situation

Room starts accumulating the year you turn 18.
Newcomers: only years you were a resident count. If born in Canada, match your 18th-birthday year.
Everything you've ever put into all your TFSAs combined.
Withdrawals get re-added to your room the next calendar year. Don't include this year's withdrawals.

How it works

  • You earn room for every calendar year from the later of (the year you turn 18) and (your first year as a Canadian tax resident), through 2026.
  • Each year's room is that year's CRA annual limit — see the table below. Unused room carries forward forever.
  • Withdrawals are added back to your room on January 1 of the following year. Re-contributing a withdrawal in the same year counts as a new contribution.

TFSA annual limits (CRA)

YearsAnnual limit
2009 – 2012$5,000
2013 – 2014$5,500
2015$10,000
2016 – 2018$5,500
2019 – 2022$6,000
2023$6,500
2024 – 2026$7,000

Someone eligible every year since 2009 who never contributed has $109,000 of room in 2026.
