How the CRA formula works

  • New room = the lesser of 18% of your prior-year earned income and the annual dollar maximum ($33,810 for 2026), minus your pension adjustment.
  • Total room = new room + unused room carried forward (it never expires).
  • Earned income includes employment and self-employment income — not pensions, OAS, or investment income.
  • The RRSP contribution deadline for the 2026 tax year is March 1, 2027 (first 60 days).

Keep in mind

  • This is an estimate. Your official deduction limit is on your Notice of Assessment and in CRA My Account.
  • Tax saving shown assumes you claim the full deduction at your marginal rate this year.
  • Not financial or tax advice — talk to a professional for your situation.
